The The Rich History of the Fort Bend County Fair

For 90 years, the Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo has been a beloved annual event for the residents of Texas. In the 1970s, the fair introduced a carnival midway, complete with rides and games, and by the 1980s, it had expanded to include live music performances, beauty pageants, and a wide variety of food vendors. 

Of course, the Fort Bend County Fair has always been about more than just carnival rides and livestock show. One of the key missions of the fair has been to support local youth initiatives. In 1979, the Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo began awarding scholarships for Texas universities and colleges to deserving students. More than 800 such scholarships have been awarded to date. For decades, the fair has sponsored programs and events to promote youth development, education, and competitions. One of the most popular events is the Youth Livestock Auction, which gives young farmers and ranchers the opportunity to sell their animals to local businesses and individuals. 

In recent years, the Fort Bend County Fair has remained a fixture of the local community, drawing thousands of visitors each year. The fair has received numerous awards and accolades for its commitment to supporting agriculture, youth, and the community. In 2019, the fair celebrated its 85th anniversary with record-breaking attendance.
