(HBJ) New Development Coming to Fulshear

The project includes offices, restaurants, retail shops and medical offices along with a village center, an open market space, a theater and museum, parks, trails and green space.

Fulshear officials have given the green light to an effort to create a new mixed-use development near the city’s downtown that aims to spur economic development in the area.

During a May 19 meeting, the Fulshear City Council unanimously approved the rezoning of 125 acres, converting the property from rural-residential to downtown-district zoning, according to a June 3 news release. The 125-acre tract is located between Wallis Street to the north and FM 1093 in the south. The property's eastern border runs along a creek that ultimately drains into the Brazos River.

Plans for the new development include a mixed-use component centered upon commercial areas with offices, restaurants, retail shops and medical offices. Plans for the project also include community and civic areas such as a plaza, a village center, an open market space, a theater and museum, parks, trails and green space, Fulshear officials said.

The news release did not provide a timeline for the project’s development. Fulshear economic development officials said the rezoning will help to bring new investments into the downtown Fulshear area.

“After unanimous approval to rezone to the Downtown District, we look forward to working with Positive Developments LLC in its efforts to develop their site," Zach Goodlander, Fulshear’s director of development, said in the release. “Their development concepts thus far demonstrate a commitment to build a vibrant and walkable project that should serve to strengthen our historic downtown core."
